PhD positions - lab of Freshwater Ecology, Biology Department, University of Patras

2 PhD positions are available to begin in May /June 2021 in the lab of Freshwater Ecology of the Biology Department, University of Patras.
The projects are relevant to the understanding of the role of aquatic macrophytes in stream ecosystem dynamics, functional diversity patterns and processes of aquatic assemblages, as well as response of benthic communities to environmental variability and climate related stressors.

The lab has attracted funding from the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) under the "Monitoring of ecological quality of Greek rivers for the Implementation of Article 8 of WFD 2000/60/EE: samplings and analyses of aquatic macrophytes" research project support.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to perform research concerning all aspects of bioassessment and aquatic ecosystems processes. [e.g. monitoring and assessment of ecological quality, biotic metrics /indices, environmental DNA, diversity and functional trait patterns, taxonomic composition, species declines and invasions].

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals with ideally some lab and field experience in biodiversity monitoring techniques and water quality samplings who are good team members to work in close collaboration with other labs from Biology School and HCMR.

The applicants should hold a BSc and MSc in Natural Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Sciences or Geosciences). Proven interest in conservation, aquatic ecology and/or biostatistics would be an advantage.
