The Hellenic Botanical Society (HBS) was founded in 1980 with its headquarters in the city of Athens (Department of Biology, University of Athens). During its first working period (1980-1985), four scientific symposia took place in various Greek cities (Patras 1981, Athens 1982, and twice in Thessaloniki 1983 and 1985). From 1994 to 2005 the Hellenic Botanical Society has organized one scientific conference roughly every two years: Delphi 1994, Paralimni (Cyprus) 1996, Alexandroupolis 1998, Argostoli (Cephalonia) 2002 and Ioannina in 2005.

The new Administration Council (2006-2009) hopes to carry out a series of new activities aiming to stimulate young scientists on subjects related to botany and the protection of our natural environment in cooperation with other scientific disciplines.

Cooperation between all Society members is welcome, and indeed necessary, to promote research and confront modern environmental problems.

The new Administration Council welcomes all your suggestions on new subjects for inclusion on our website that may be of interest to you or others (e.g. new publications, relevant links, etc).
